Tattoo Care
As a resource to our clients
Here is a list of instructions to care for your new tattoo.
Your Tattoo is an OPEN WOUND! BE HYGIENIC!
-After receiving your tattoo, leave bandages on over night (to avoid getting anything in the wound).
-The following morning, remove bandages and take a shower. Apply unscented soap to your hand and wash under warm water removing all debris from the tattoo.Pat dry with a clean towel.
-For the first 2-3 days, The focus is on keeping the tattoo clean. Wash the tattoo whenever it gets a build up of blood or clear discharge (plasma). On average, 3-5 times a day should work, however every client is unique. Do not wash constantly!
-In 3-5 days you will see a flaking and peeling of dead skin on your tattoo. similar to a sun burn, this peeling is accompanied by a dry, tight feeling of the skin. With clean hands, apply a thin layer of unscented lotion as needed (usually two times a day, but whenever the skin feels overtly dry). Avoid anything medicated, scented, or petroleum based. Do not use coconut oil!
-Over the course of roughly 2 weeks, the dead skin will continue to flake and peel. Continue to lotion as needed. Should scabs form, DO NOT PICK!
DO NOT DO THE FOLLOWING!
-Reapply your bandage once removed.
-Go crazy with the moisturizer. Give the skin a chance to dry a bit before applying it, and apply only as needed. No heavy gobs.
-Pick or scratch. Never Scratch!
-Dunk your tattoo under water during the healing process. Avoid swimming, baths, hot tuns, saunas or steam rooms.
-Go crazy with physical activity. You can move and feel comfortable with a new tattoo, But go easy at the gym. Don't rub the open wound of your new piece on potentially dirty gym equipment or get sweat in it.
-Get it dirty. Wear clean, comfortable and clothes over your piece. particularly if you work in a dirty environment.
-Rub weird stuff in it! it seems obvious, but stick to unscented soap and moisturizer. Avoid anything medicated, prescription based or not intended for use on human skin.
